ARCO: THE LAMP THAT BECAME AN ICON

There are a few objects that can be called a design icon, one of them is the Arco lamp, designed by Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Achille Castiglioni for the Flos company. It is one of the most famous lamps of the design history, so iconic that it became part of the Milan’ Triennale Design Museum and New York’ MOMA Museums.

Versatile and practical, the Arco lamp is bases on the idea of having a point of light suspended above a specific place of interest, for example a table. It is very practical, as it can be moved to adapt to the consumer’ needs regarding the lighting. The base of the lamp consists of a white marble parallelepiped, the curved stem is made up of three stainless steel sections with a U-shaped cross-section and the dome consists of two pieces

The Arco lamp is still in production and in many years undergone only the modification of the electrical system, to align it with the standards. It is the first industrial design object to be granted copyright, which testify to its uniqueness.
