One of these trends, named knolling, is quite popular on Instagram and is widely used in sectors like clothing, beauty and food. The knolling was ideated in 1987 by Andrew Kromelow, an employee in the Frank Gehry furniture store that was working on designs for the Knoll brand. Kromelow used to organize unused work tools on a table, arranging them in parallel or at an angle of 90 ° and taking overhead pictures of them, calling this technique “Knolling” from the style of the Knoll furniture.

During the years, the knolling has been adopted by many brands and fashion&design magazines, because it allows to show products in a clear way, that’s also pleasant for the eyes. Recently it has also changed is name, to a more modern “flatlay”. Curious to discover more on this trend?
