ICONIC DESIGN OBJECTS: THE ECLISSE LAMP

ICONIC DESIGN OBJECTS: THE ECLISSE LAMP

There are some design objects that almost everyone can easily recognise, as they are part of design’ history.

One of them is the Eclisse lamp, designed for Artemide in the year 1965 by Vico Magistretti – that also designed for the brand the iconic Chimera and Mezzachimera lamps – has become the representative of Italian design in the world.

This is a table lamp simple yet innovative, that balances innovation and usefulness; its name comes from the fact that its rotating inner lampshade ‘eclipses’ the light source, exactly like what happens during a lunar eclipse. Thanks to this simple idea, the user becomes the protagonist, as its action is required to change the light intensity.

Eclisse, that is still in production, is part of the permanent collection of the most important design museums of the world, like to New York’ MoMa and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
