WILL 2021 BE THE YEAR OF AUGMENTED REALITY?

WILL 2021 BE THE YEAR OF AUGMENTED REALITY?

Designers know very well that a beautiful and up-to-date app can really help in getting in touch with customer. That’s why is really important to look at the most recent trends.

One of them, augmented reality, will be increasingly a valuable method to reach target audiences, presenting products in a very immersive way bypassing the need to touch physically the product. As the pandemic continues, indeed, people won’t be able to experience products in person: but augmented reality, that helps with data visualisation and prototypes, will be really helpful to fill the gap.

The applications are limitless, for example the app IKEA Place allows, by combining the latest AR technology and IKEA’s smart home solutions, to experience IKEA like never before by letting customers furnish a whole room in just one tap by virtually placing true-to-scale 3D models in their very own space.

If you think to may be interested to deepen the topic Apple’s ARKit  may be a good starting point, as it allow developers to easily create amazing augmented reality experiences for Apple products. For example, allows to create a topological map of your space with labels identifying floors, walls, ceilings etc. and also to capture the motion of a person in real time with a single camera.

Last but not least, did you know that the WORTH Project Øjenfryd worked to reduce the perceived dehumanising aesthetic of VR headsets? Second call winner of the WORTH Partnership Program, it draws on Scandinavian heritage to make VR headsets more inclusive, comfortable and sustainable. Want to know more?
