This week we had a fascinating interview with our Ambassador from Ukraine, Elizabeth Myroshnychenko, who is the Secretary General of the Handicraft Chamber of Ukraine. Elizabeth has a master’s degree in economics and entrepreneurship and since joining the Handicraft Chamber of Ukraine in 2009, she has been actively involved in its development, specifically in the areas of intersectoral and international collaboration and public-private dialogue in the craft and SME sectors.
We wanted to know more about this work and how she feels that it is assisting the growth of the creative industry in the Ukraine, what the country can offer and what are the most relevant issues currently affecting the country’s progress.
How do you feel that your work is contributing to the progression of your countries’ creative industry and that of Europe as a whole?
What is the most prominent challenge affecting your countries’ creative industry and how may you suggest overcoming this?
Our country is historically rich in different kinds of crafts and each region has its own feature. But the problem is that the heritage and traditions were specially destroyed by the Soviet authorities for decades and our task today is revival of the cultural self-identification, which has become more important than ever before.
Do you feel it is important to sustain aspects of creativity in your country in regard to innovation, preservation of heritage values and ancient techniques?
I believe that especially today when development of A.I. and automation of production process are growing, it is becoming increasingly important to preserve and develop the humane future and to realize the value of human hands.
What are some current events or initiatives you have taken part in and wish to promote further, what was your involvement in these?
Preparation and development of the 5-years Plane of Measures for a craft sector in Ukraine, preparing the project of law “On craft activity”, and lastly the organization and management of Public Private Dialogue events, EU4Business Week, Donor forums, Regional Position Paper events, Craft and SME Days, SME Academies, study tours, road shows.
