Boundary Objects

Abandoned furniture is reborn. Minimal structures graft onto neoclassical pieces, generating an aesthetic dialogue that transforms objects and rewrites contemporary design.

Boundary Objects

The Message of the Project

Boundary Objects aims to redefine and reimagine neglected design items that carry shared meanings and emotional connections across different cultures. These objects are often associated with heaviness and impracticality, making them challenging to adapt to contemporary tastes and needs. The project seeks to create a new design aesthetic that dignifies these items through the discovery and recovery of materials. By amplifying the surfaces of these objects, Boundary Objects enhances user interaction, drawing inspiration from parasitism in architecture, where contrasting aesthetics, eras, and materials are harmoniously integrated.

The Idea Behind the Project

The project is built on the concept that unpredictable adaptations and formal architecture are intertwined, coexisting in a parasitic relationship. The new furniture elements thrive on the energy accumulated by the original, or 'host,' furniture over time. This collection serves as a place of interactivity, inviting people to engage with the history of crafted objects while also creating new meanings. Through this process, Boundary Objects bridges the gap between the past and the present, using craftsmanship and recycled materials to produce functional and sustainable designs.

What’s Next?

Boundary Objects plans to host an event in Turin, in conjunction with the official Milan event, to showcase the project where it originated. Turin, a city rich in design, architecture, and contemporary art, offers the ideal setting to highlight the importance of the WORTH Project. The exhibition will feature large furniture pieces alongside performances, attracting attention from journalists and design enthusiasts. Raoul Gilioli, who has previously worked with local institutions, could help secure an affordable exhibition space for the project. This event could serve as a valuable opportunity for WORTH to further amplify its shared mission.
