Farakaza

FARAKAZA creates unique interior objects using corten steel and reclaimed wood, blending traditional patterns with modern design to honor cultural heritage in contemporary spaces.

KOMANDEER

The message of the project

The project focuses on crafting modern interior products that bring echoes of the past into today’s homes. Each piece is handcrafted with artistry from reclaimed hardwood and corten steel. Corten is crafted in an innovative way to produce aesthetic, rusted patterns, originating from heritage, such as bobbin-lace making.

Alongside crafting these products, FARAKAZA aims to subtly inspire a love for tradition in a non-intrusive way, by reintroducing heritage into modern spaces. While many customers may no longer appreciate lace napkins or embroidered fabrics in their traditional forms, the designs ensure that these patterns live on, preserving them for the future. Products not only serve a functional purpose but also help clients rediscover the charm and appeal of handcrafted essentials, ensuring these traditional elements endure in a modern world.

The idea behind the project

FARAKAZA was born out of a shared passion for crafting and home decorating between its founders. The project began when they couldn’t find the right lighting fixture for their home and decided to make their own.

The inspiration for their designs comes from the rich cultural and industrial heritage of their hometown, Idrija. They draw from the visual contrast between the rusted, corroded structures left by the closed mercury mine and the delicate beauty of Idrija lace. Through their innovative corten steel treatment, they create unique products where rusted and non-rusted sections form intricate patterns, echoing these traditional lace motifs.

What next?

FARAKAZA aims to expand its collection beyond its current offerings by incorporating diverse cultural patterns. The project plans to start with a Portuguese collection, celebrating and integrating European craftsmanship into its designs. It envisions creating unique and exclusive patterns in collaboration with various designers and artists, further enriching the product range. The goal is to continually blend tradition with modern aesthetics, ensuring that its pieces not only preserve cultural heritage but also resonate with contemporary design sensibilities.
