Growing green

The aim of the project is to launch a disruptive product that will transform how aromatic plants are used: a uniquely designed growing lamp that embodies the cultural heritage of the Sicilian Moor Heads.

Growing green

The message of the project

The lamp will be produced using innovative compostable materials, such as orange peel or coffee waste, embodying the fundamental principle of the circular economy (from plant to plant). It will enable the cultivation of aromatic plants across various latitudes and climates. Users will be able to cook with zero-kilometre plants grown at home, rather than relying on dried herbs that have a high environmental impact.

The idea behind the project

The ultimate goal is to establish a new habit. The project aims to replace products with a significant environmental footprint, such as dried aromatic plants, with the opportunity for individuals to grow their own herbs at home, in bars, restaurants, and accommodation facilities, regardless of location or climate. By incorporating a design and artistic element that facilitates the ongoing growth and development of the plants, the initiative encourages both citizens and professionals to embrace the use of zero-kilometre plants, free from pesticides and chemicals used in intensive farming. In addition to promoting a healthier lifestyle, the project seeks to raise public awareness of the circular economy.

What next?

This project aims to reimagine existing indoor lamps for growing vegetables through a design-focused approach, blending craftsmanship with sustainability. It offers a bespoke product that disrupts cultural norms and transforms the use of aromatic plants, encouraging customers to opt for home-grown herbs over environmentally damaging dried alternatives. With possibilities for customization and innovative design, these growing lamps could find a place in bars and restaurants, replacing traditional centrepieces while raising awareness about the circular economy and health through an interactive QR code.
