The message of the project
Knot bridges the gap between designers and artisans, empowering creators to turn unused semi-finished materials from Italy's Chair District into unique, sustainable furniture. By repurposing surplus stock, Knot promotes sustainability, reduces CO2 emissions, and revitalizes local craftsmanship, fostering a community-driven approach to shape the future of design.
The idea behind the project
Knot emerged organically from a shared vision among a Milanese design firm, Udine's master chairmakers and a Portuguese tech innovator. This international team aimed to create high-quality, sustainable furniture in a new way while contributing to valorize the territory. Knot symbolizes unity, combining diverse expertise to turn challenges into opportunities through outstanding design and craftsmanship, with the belief that collaboration drives innovation.
What next?
Knot aims to expand beyond Italy, incorporating materials from other artisan districts globally, fostering connections between manufacturers and designers, creating a network that empowers designers to innovate sustainably. The platform plans to introduce advanced 3D scanning, enhance its sustainability metrics, and host exclusive sustainability-focused design masterclasses. Knot aspires to become a global hub for eco-conscious design and circular economy principles in the furniture industry.
