MeSenseU - NonVerbal Communication Interface

MeSenseU is a non-verbal communication interface that translates the biobehavioral states of non-verbal individuals and builds a communication bridge between users and society

MeSenseU

The message of the project

MeSenseU aims to democratize communication and weaken the perception of psychiatric disorders in society. By translating the basic biobehavioral states of non-verbal individuals, MeSenseU explains the states that the individual cannot verbally or emotionally mention. According to recent studies, there are 340 million non-verbal individuals in Europe and the USA, which are the result of different physiological, neurological, and psychiatric disorders. MeSenseU’s concept and technology were validated to be useful for 21 disorders such as; autism, post-traumatic stress disorder, complex ptsd, Alzheimer's, brain tumors, stroke, deaf-muteness and so on.

The idea behind the project

MeSenseU came from a moment of empathy while imagining an individual not being understood by the whole world just because you cannot verbally or emotionally express yourself as a stereotypical person. The idea came from this experience to empathize with kids with autism. As a concept, it took its inspiration from sonar waves, which are a non-verbal way of communicating underwater. MeSenseU is set out to be a social innovation product at the cross-section of neuroscience, e-textiles and artificial intelligence.

MeSenseU

What next?

MeSenseU, wants to bridge the deep gap separating people with communication impairments from society by proposing a truly innovative device that helps caregivers better accompany and educate the users to communicate their well being. The project aims to weaken the perception of psychiatric disorders in society. We designed MeSenseU using the following strategies to make it sustainable and aware:

  • We used Zero Waste Knitting: Reducing the textile production to Zero-Waste with a special knit structure. Selecting sustainably produced textile materials (since our user group is hypersensitive to textures, we prefer sustainably grown natural fibers and yarns)
  • The design of the garment and the electronics embedded in it must be disassembled in case of repairs and/or replacements.
  • We aim to cooperate with one of the most diffused networks and associations of "repairers": restarters, in order to provide assistance locally if one of our electronic parts needs to be repaired. This cooperation will help us finalize the electronics sustainability step of our product.
