Description
WORTH would like to congratulate 1st call winner Bas Froon on the success of his exhibition part of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) with the project: “The Future is local: micromoulding machine & soft biocomposites” which was presented at the Milan Design Week during the Salone del Mobile last month.
Along with 20 other artists and designers from KABK, Bas Froon presented his work under the title ‘My Practice, My Politics’ During the exhibition, Froon presented his micromoulding machine which can alter the properties of biocomposite materials from velvety soft to hard using a 3D scan or customer computer design to tailor-make each product to the end user.
The aim of this revolutionary machine serves to reduce labour-intensive assembly work and also promotes sustainability as various products can be made from the same material enabling continuous reuse without waste. Froon explains: “Instead of labour-intensive assembly of different parts, I managed to use only one type of material. That makes it much easier to assemble a product, but also makes it possible to re-use the materials for new products at the end of its lifetime. With this very special technique we will be able to manufacture in the Netherlands again in a very competitive and sustainable way.”
Bas Froon has a background in industrial design and combines traditional manufacturing processes with technical innovations, he has contributed his expertise to the design industry with his innovative cross-discipline approach which blends both craft and industrial techniques.
