The message of the project
BrightSideUP looks for a creative, functional and aesthetic answer for companies’ waste stream. By examining their residue and using it as a source material for upcycled design, it creates contemporary and sustainable lighting products. BrightSideUP’s approach is centered around reducing industrial residue by repurposing waste materials into versatile and creative lighting objects.
The idea behind the project
Founded by Nina Savič, Slovenian architect, designer and founder of Jugošik and Nathalie Flückiger, Swiss glassblower and glass designer, BrightSideUP combines their expertise in light and glass design. Together, they developed a lamp by repurposing residue from the glass producer Virospack. For project Worth II, Nina and Nathalie teamed up with LED panel production company QHub Lightec from Riga that illuminated recycled glass panels with the newest LED technology. For project Worth II, metal parts were produced in collaboration with local craftsmen, reached through Istanbul Creative Craft Platform.
BrightSideUP is a movement that generates awareness for industrial waste materials and the possibilities of reusing it. The future designs will be developed in collaboration with design academies, local craftsmen and co-produced in cooperation with social work centres in the area of industry partners.
