Brightsideup

BrightSideUP looks for a creative, functional and aesthetic answer for companies’ waste stream. By examining their residue and using it as a source material for upcycled design, it creates contemporary and sustainable lighting products.

The message of the project

BrightSideUP’s approach is centred around reducing industrial residue by repurposing waste materials into versatile and creative lighting objects. The lighting products as well as collaborations are featured on the upcycle design platform BrightSideUP.

The idea behind the project

BrightSideUP seeks a creative, functional, and aesthetic solution for companies' waste streams. By examining their residue and using it as a source material for upcycled design, it creates contemporary and sustainable lighting products.

Founded by Slovenian architect and upcycled lamp and product designer Nina Savič and Swiss glassblower and glass designer Nathalie Flückiger, BrightSideUP combines their expertise in light and glass design. Together, they developed a lamp by repurposing residue from the glass producer Virospack. For project Worth II, Nina and Nathalie teamed up with LED panel production company QHub Lightec from Riga. Together, they developed a product that illuminates recycled glass panels with the newest LED technology. For project Worth II, metal parts were produced in collaboration with local craftsmen, reached through Istanbul Creative Craft Platform.

In addition to BrightSideUP, Nina and Nathalie both work individually in their fields. Nina is the founder of the brand Jugošik, design studio, focusing on upcycling vintage lamps and furniture. Nathalie is a glass blower and designer living in Vienna, involved in various projects in her field.

What next?

BrightSideUP is a movement that generates awareness for industrial waste materials and the possibilities of reusing it. The future designs are developed in collaboration with design academies, local craftsmen and co-produced in cooperation with social work centres in the area of industry partners.
