COLLAPSIBLE BASKETRY

Project for the revisiting of traditional basketry

COLLAPSIBLE BASKETRY

The message of the project

Collapsible Basketry aims to revive the ancient technique of spiral basketry, emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship in society. It highlights the cultural significance of traditional crafts as part of our collective heritage and aims to preserve them by adapting them to modern times.

The idea behind the project

The project seeks to innovate traditional basketry by creating collapsible and practical designs suitable for contemporary living. It combines traditional materials with sustainable alternatives, such as local plant materials with new soft biomaterials, to create objects that blend tradition with avant-garde elements.

What next?

Moving forward, the project focuses on revising the construction mechanism of traditional basketry, incorporating both hard and soft parts to allow articulation. It emphasizes collaboration among stakeholders across Europe, including designers, craftswomen, and fablabs, to ensure a holistic approach to the project's development and implementation.
