The message of the project
FOLD UN FOLD explores the careful gesture of folding and unfolding as an open process for designing spaces. Through this clear method - at once defined and boundless - (un)folded paper and textile models transform into furniture, objects, clothing and graphic design. By transposing those models to furniture or by adding holes and fasteners to larger pieces of fabric, the final designs are not final; they transform and dialogue in an evolutive user experience of the simple ritual gestures that make a space into a home.
The idea behind the project
Having Japanese cultural background, the architect/designer Kana Arioka seeks to sublimate the essence of Japanese design attitude toward the needs of contemporary society for the realization of a sustainable future. By requiring interaction from the user, FOLD UN FOLD aims to facilitate a more conscious way of life, not framed by walls but opened up by bodily experience.
What next?
The first goal would be to realize a solo exhibition to visualize and transmit the universe of FOLD UN FOLD, as well as to find a business partner with whom we can collaborate in an inspiring way being on the threshold of the art and design field.
