The message of the project
Project Odette embraces circular design by transforming grape marc— the residue left after grapes are harvested and pressed for wine production— from vineyards in the South of France into an innovative leather alternative. This animal-free and socially responsible material is then meticulously crafted into unique, luxury handbags and accessories.
The idea behind the project
The project’s concept demonstrates how waste from one industry can be turned into stunning and unique products in another. In France alone, 2.4 million tonnes of grape waste are produced annually and usually sent to distilleries. However, Project Odette is showing how agricultural waste can be upcycled into something new and exciting—even luxurious. The project also aims to highlight how small-scale designers and material innovators can drive positive change in the fashion industry.
What next?
Planet of the Grapes will continue collaborating with local material scientists, winemakers, and small-scale manufacturers to co-create customised grape leather materials specifically for the brand "Under Her Eyes." Currently, the project offers clients carefully curated colours, textures, and finishes in hand-designed accessories available online and at selected boutiques. In the future, the brand aims to expand its range to more boutiques and explore the creation of fashion pieces.
